It is imperative that the gas cooker installer who installs or disconnects your gas cooker is Gas-Safe registered, cooker installation & disconnection is not a DIY task.

Free Standing Gas Cookers – A flexible cooker hose and plug in connector Bayonet must be used to connect this type of gas cooker to the supply point.

As a general rule the gas supply point should be located 500 – 600mm from the floor and 50 – 150mm from the right hand side. This ensures that it will not cause an obstruction when the cooker is pushed into position, by allowing a flexible connection to hang in the shape of a “U”.

The correct positioning also allows the cooker to be moved forward sufficiently to enable disconnection of the plug in connection. Every free-standing cooker must be secured by either a Stability Bracket or a safety chain.

Gas Hobs – As with a free-standing gas cooker, space has to be allowed so that there is no fire risk to combustible surfaces.

The recommended clearances are 760mm above the hob to the nearest wall cabinet and a 50mm clearance all around the hob. A separate isolating valve should be fitted under the hob for safe isolation. We will make sure that any new hob meets these requirements, we will re-configuring any pipe work necessary to bring it up to current regulations.

An isolation device must be fitted in the gas supply to every appliance and the plug in connector Bayonet is an accepted method of isolation.

Before the gas cooker or gas hob is fitted, the gas engineer will carry out a tightness test to see if the existing gas services are sound.

If the engineer finds a gas leak, this will have to be rectified before any further work can be carried out. Another gas test will be carried out after any work has been completed to make sure the new gas work and new appliances fitted are not leaking gas. Please note, we cannot fit second hand parts.
